Digital Dentistry Is No Longer the Future - It's Now

Let me save you some random Googling and overthinking.

IDDC — the International Digital Dentistry Congress — is happening on 27–28 June 2026 at Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.Big event. 80+ speakers. 100+ companies. Around 4,000 dentists.

Sounds impressive.

But here’s the real question no one says out loud:

If you just finished BDS… is it actually worth going?

Short answer:It depends.Long answer: keep reading.

First - what actually happens at IDDC?

Think of IDDC less like a boring conference… and more like:

A massive dental tech exhibition + Live demos of new tools + Talks from clinicians and industry experts

You’ll see things like:

  • Digital scans instead of messy impressions

  • Same-day crowns using CAD/CAM

  • 3D printing (models, guides, aligners)

  • AI in diagnosis

  • Implant planning software

  • Clear aligner workflows

Basically… this is what modern dentistry actually looks like outside college.

And yes — it’s very different from what you learned in BDS.

Why you SHOULD consider going

1. It shows you the future — fast

If your exposure is mostly plaster models and textbook cases, IDDC can be a wake-up call.

In a good way.

You suddenly realize:

  • Dentistry is evolving fast

  • Clinics are becoming tech-driven

  • Your career options are much broader than you thought

Even if you don’t understand everything, you start thinking differently.

2. Networking (but only if you do it right)

Let’s be honest.

If you just walk around randomly, you’ll:

  • Collect brochures

  • Take photos

  • Go home

That’s it.

But if you go with a plan:

  • Identify 3–5 people to talk to

  • Seniors, clinic owners, company reps, mentors

Then suddenly, the same event becomes valuable.

Most fresh BDS grads don’t do this.

That’s exactly why you should.

3. You discover non-clinical careers

This is underrated.

A huge part of IDDC is companies, not clinics.

You’ll see:

  • Dental tech startups

  • Implant companies

  • Software platforms

  • Medical device firms

And it hits you:

“Oh… dentistry is not just sitting on a chair and treating patients.”

If you’ve ever felt unsure about clinical life, this exposure is important.

4. You have time right now

Later, when you're working:

  • Getting 2 days off = difficult

  • Travel = harder

  • Energy = lower

Right now?

You have flexibility.

And that’s actually a big advantage.

Why you might want to SKIP (or rethink)

1. You won’t apply most of it immediately

Let’s be real.

Topics like:

  • Full-mouth rehab

  • Advanced implant workflows

  • Digital prosthetics

These are not beginner-level.

You’ll understand parts of it…But you won’t use it right away.

That’s okay — just don’t expect instant clinical benefit.

2. It’s not cheap

Rough breakdown:

  • Registration

  • Travel

  • Stay

  • Food

₹10,000 – ₹25,000+ easily

For a fresh graduate, that’s a serious decision.

If budget is tight:

  • Attend 1 day instead of 2

  • Look for volunteer options

  • Or skip this year without guilt

3. Information is already online

Let’s be honest again.

You can learn a LOT from:

  • YouTube

  • Podcasts

  • Online lectures

Even 60% of conference content is available online.

So why attend?

Not for information For experience + exposure + networking

So… who should actually go?

Go if you are:

  • In final year or just finished BDS

  • Curious about the future of dentistry

  • Interested in digital / tech-based dentistry

  • Exploring non-clinical paths

  • Based near Mumbai (lower cost)

  • Ready to plan your visit (this matters)

Maybe skip for now if you are:

  • Fully focused on NEET MDS prep

  • Tight on budget

  • Expecting job opportunities directly from the event

Because honestly — This is not a job fair.

Quick facts (so you don’t have to search)

  • Dates: 27–28 June 2026

  • Venue: Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai

  • Speakers: 80+

  • Exhibitors: 100+

  • Dentists expected: 4,000+

  • Edition: 4th

Final thought from HappyDr

Here’s the truth most colleges won’t tell you:

There’s a gap between what you learned… and what dentistry actually looks like today.

And that gap is growing.

Events like IDDC help you see that early.

You don’t have to attend this year. But you do need to stay aware of where the field is going.

That’s exactly why we built HappyDr.
